Hi Yochana,

Thanks for sharing your receipe. The agar agar looks absolutely lovely =).

I am keen to try it myself! Can I ask, under method 2, when you pour into different parts of the mould with different colours, do you wait for it to set colour by colour or can you do it all at once? Would it interfere with each other if you do it all together?

Hope I explained myself clearly. Thanks for your tips again.

Regards
Ling

Hi Ling,

After pouring each layer, make sure it sets before pouring the next layer otherwise it will intermingle with each other and you will not get the layers properly. Before pouring in the next layer, scratch the top with a fork so that it sticks well.

Hi Wendy,

Chance upon your blog site and am so captivated by your cartoon jelly and cakes.Motivate me to try making one for my girl.

Can I ask if there is any different in agar agar mould and cake tin mould?

And like Ling question, when you pour into different parts of the mould with different colours, do you wait for it to set colour by colour or can you do it all at once? Would it interfere with each other if you do it all together?

The main cartoon colour will have to be pour into the mould first is it? I see that there are different layers of colours in your picture. Do you put different layers colours once the main cartoon picture is done and set?

Thanks for advice and pls continue to give us such cute cartoons.

Hi,

oh yes , you have to wait for each layer to get set before pouring in the next layer.

Fill up the dents with coloured agar agar and then let it set before doing the layering.

Hi Aunty Yochanna,
Thanks for the advice. But how do I go about getting the skin tone colour (the one that you have for the face of Jerry)? There is a limitation to the number of clouring that were available in the market.

Thank you. ^^

Hi Auntie Yochana,

What do you mean by instant jelly mentioned in the ingredients?

Rgds,
Karen

Aunty Yochana said...

Hi Karen,

Instant Jelly is in powder form and it helps to set the jelly faster. You can get it from Sun Lik or Phoon Huat.

Hi,
Is instand jelly - Gelatine?
my family commented my agar agar taste abit hard when chew. . What cld be the reasons? or is it because i've more coconut layers?

If using coconut cream in a packet, can i add water to achieve the amt of liquids in ur recipe? thks

Aunty Yochana said...

Hi anonymous,

Instant jelly is to help to set the agar agar faster.

If it's too hard, add in more water. If you keep boiling it, the agar agar will become hard.

For coconut cream, you can add water to dilute it.

Hi yochana,
May i ask what's the purpose of adding salt to coconut milk? To enhance its favour or preserve it from turning bad easily? =p

Lastly, if using packet coconut milk, need add in salt oso?

Thks inadv.

Aunty Yochana said...

Hi anonymous

Salt added into coconut milk enhance the taste and helps to preserve the shelf life too. If you use box coconut milk, add in salt too. Anyway, it's optional. If you don't like salt, just omit it.

Hi Aunty Yochana,

Some of the ingredients for cartoon jelly are agar-agar powder and jelly. Aren't these 2 the same? Also, for thick coconut milk, does this mean 100% coconut milk and less than 100% for thin milk? Can I use Aroy brand 75% coconut milk as thin milk?
Thanks for your tips.

Joy
Vancouver, Canada

Aunty Yochana said...

Hi Joy,

Yes you can use Aroy.. For thick coconut milk, use 100% from the tin and if you want thin coconut milk, you use 50% coconut milk and 50% water.

Instant jelly will not set but it will help to set faster but agar agar powder will set the jelly.

Please advice whether u conduct the cartoon agar agar/jelly making course? Pls email me at eunicedarren@yahoo.com.sg Thanks.

Dear Yochana,

May I ask what brand of colouring do you use for your agar agar ?

Yours looks lovely - it is bright and distinct, without being "loud". How much of colouring do you put on each coloured layer ie 3 drops, 5 drops ?

Btw, does it leaves "rainbow" colours in your tongue, upon consumptions? Mine does, and I do not think it is a good thing.
Thank you for your kind advice. Really appreciate it.

Have a wonderful Mid Autumn Mooncake festival.

Best Regards,
Joyce
