My daughter loves this kind of steam cake but I've tried making them and they always fail to "smile" so nicely. Please share this recipe with us Aunty Yochana. Thanks.

Regards.

What a lovely steamed Pandan cake! I'm curious, how come your steamed cake smiles like a Huat Kuih?

Btw, you got tagged! I forgot whether you do tag or not. :P

Hi Delphine,

Shortening can just be stored at room temperature. Place it at a cooler place. No need to store in the fridge.

Hi Aunty,

Is it by adding 7-up or sprite, it will make the cake "smiles"?

aunty, may I know how to make a cake to smile like yours? Is it that we have to fill the batter up to 90% full and do not place the cakes to nesr to each other when steaming?

Hi su,

I filled the batter to the brim of the mould. Leave some space in-between so that more steam can come through to cook the cake and let it split.

Hello Yochana,
I was looking for a pandan steamed cake recipe and I stumbled upon your lovely blog. I am amazed by the shape of these. I looked at the yam huat kueh recipe in your blog, is that the recipe you use? Sweet potatoes are not easily found where I live in France, so if you have and easier recipe for making these, I'd be grateful.
Thanks and hello from Paris.

Aunty,
Good morning, I tried a normal steamed egg cake last night, I did add in 1/2 tbs of ovalette, my cake very soft but not as fluffy as yours & is still soft this morning but it did not smile. Do I need to fill the steamer full or 1/2 the water will do? I am using the 3-tiered steamer. Thanks.

Aunty,

Hi kium,

those that uses 7-up or sprite is a different recipe...but that steamed cake is my favourite since my childhood days. I used to yearn for this 7-up steamed cake till now.
