Hi Aunty !
The cookies so open , can I have receipe too , thanks a lot !
Hi Aunty Yochana,
Would you mind sharing your recipe with me?
thanks
June
Lucy,
Is the dough manageable enough to be rolled and cut by cookies cutter?
Rgds,
Anc.
HI anc,
I can't remember the texture but I'm pretty sure you can use a cookie cutter to cut it out. Remember to roll the dough between 2 sheets of plastic to avoid sticking onto the rolling pin. Sprinkle some flour though...

Hi
Your cookies look so yummy!
Would like to know whether the almonds used are chinese almonds(small heart shaped) or the English almond (the oval shape).
Thanks
Hi anonymous,
I used English almonds but down in Singapore and Malaysia, they do sell ground almonds. So being a lazy bump, I used ground almond which I bought ready-made.

hi aunty, i tried this recipe but my cookies turned out not very crumbly. it was qte hard in the centre. also, my dough was very difficult to handle as it was very crumbly and diff to roll into ball. is there a prob? and do i need to sift the flour to get a finer texture?
hi potato,
I can't explain why you're experiencing this problem. Mine was so delicious.
rgds.
Hi Yochana,
Would like to try your recipe but can i check on the optional vanillin powder. Is this is the same as almond powder? Cos i have a bottle of vanillin powder which i just bought and out of curiosity, i tasted it and it was bitter. Is that supposed to be the case and how does vanillin powder enhance the cookies? Appreciate your patience with my questions. Thank you so much. Regards, Chris
Hi chris,
Yes you are right vanillin powder is bitter. It enhance the fragrance of the cookies...
rgds
Hi aunty! Just wondering how many cookies this recipe yields? Thanks!
Regards
Hazel
Hi Hazel,
I never count...sorry. It also depends on how big (the size) you roll it.

LOL, after my numberous failed attempts at making cookies, this one turns out perfectly well. the comments left by others helped too...now i take note not to leave my cookies in the oven for too long...tks to all who shared your baking tips =)
hi aunty, i baked these cookies recently for CNY! They were great:)very easy to make and delicious! Have a look at Bake Me Happy
Thanks for the recipe!
hi aunty, if i were to use whole almonds and ground them myself, do i need to toast them first? thanks
hi anonymous
yes you roast it first so that it's easier to blend.. Don't over-roast it tho.
rgds
hi aunty, may i know if i can substitute the caster sugar with icing sugar? if can, must i adjust the amount? will the ommission of the vanillin powder affect the taste a lot? thanks
hi anonymous.
yes you can sub - no need to make any changes. No vanilla essence , it's o.k. It won't harm the taste .
rgds
thank you aunty for your reply
Hi aunty
Just to clarify: we can use vanilla essence instead of vanilin powder? tks!
hi anonymous.
yes definitely you can.
rgds
hi aunty i made these cookies today. very nice but they did not crack so nicely as yours. what could be the reason? thanks
Hi anonymous,
probably your baking powder is not very active.
rgds
hi can i actually substitute the oil with butter?
Hi anonymous.
I've not tried but I presume it should be able to..

Hello Aunty Yo,
These cookies are so easy to make and they look so pretty. Someone who doesn't like almonds just ate half of them!
Wish you a Merry Christmas and happy 2009!

Hello Aunty Yochana, if I replace the cornoil by olive oil, would it affect the taste and texture of the cookie?
guilian
hi guilian,
no it will not affect...you can just replace it.
rgds
Hi Aunty Yochana,
I baked the cookies just now and they are quite good! (:
Just some queries to make:
1) While the cookies were fine, I can see the sugar particles unfortunately, so I think my sugar could be not fine enough... If I use icing sugar, would the cookies be not crunchy anymore?
2) Coz I replaced cornoil by olive oil, I can still faintly smell the olive oil scent (which some people may not like), if I replace by melted butter, would it be more fragrant? If so, how many grams of butter do I need to melt?
Thanks so much for your responses and many great recipes!! I've tried quite a number of them and they all turn out well!
cheers,
guilian
hi guilian,
yes your sugar is not fine enough. Buy very fine sugar.
Melted butter - use back the same amount.

Hi Aunt Yochana:
I followed yr recipe but my cookies turn out to be slightly crumbly. How to make the cookies less crumbly? Can I refrigerate the dough bfe rolling it? If yes, how long do I have to refrigerate?
Also, do I have to grease the baking tray prior placing the rolled cookie dough on it?
Kindly advise. Tks
Rgds
eSummer
Hi esummer,
if it's too crumbly, add in a little more cornoil.
rgds
Tks Aunty Yochana for yr reply!! Can I refrigerate the dough bfe rolling it?
Is it necessary to grease the baking tray prior placing the rolled cookie dough on the tray?
Hiesummer,
no need to grease the trays.
Yes you can place the dough in the fridge but there is no necessity.

Thumbs up Wen.

Hi yochana,
I have tried baked too. It's yummy!
Can I check with you how long can I keep this almond cookies and potato chip & cheese cookies? Cause I'm baking it earlier for CNY, so not sure how long can I keep.
HAPPY 2009!!!
Rgds,
Jo
Hi Jo,
It depends on how your baked your cookies and how u store. Normally baked cookies can last for a minimum of 3 months if they are properly stored.
rgds
Hi Yochana,
Thanks for your reply. Because I'm a beginner in baking, can I check with you another thing?
For baking cookies & cakes, I should turn on the heat for both top & bottom right? I saw on my oven there is another icon is fan & coil together, what does that mean?
So sorry, cause I really have no idea. I always turn on the top & bottom heat, but usually bottom will be cooked or burned faster then the top. So wondering if it's correct.
Rgds,
Jo
Hi Jo,
Always use top and bottom heat to bake.
I prefer to bake a tray at a time.
If your bottom is hotter, shift up your tray one shelf higher.
Coil icon could mean grill.
Some chefs likes fan mode but not for me. I use top and bottom heat.

hi aunty yochana,
can i replace ground almond to almond powder (those we make for drinking)?
thnks
elaine
hi elaine,
No you can't use the almond powder that is for drinking.
rgds
Hi Aunty Yochana!
I think I have the same problem as potato. I tried your recipe and my cookie dough turned out quite crumbly despite me adding additional sunflower oil. Even after being baked, the texture was still rather crumbly and I had to be very careful handling them. However, tastewise, they were fantastic!
Am just a little disappointed that I didn't get the texture right. Could be it because I used brown sugar instead of castor sugar? I cant figure out what went wrong as I followed your recipe quite closely. I hope you can provide me with some advice.
Thanks loads!
Hi anonymous,
Try mixing all the ingredients together with your hands. The sugar will melt and bind the dough together. You try with castor sugar instead of brown sugar.
rgds
Hi yochana,
I have tried the almond cookies, but I was unable to melt the sugar when mixing the ingredients. Is there any method to melt the sugar when mixing?
Rgds,
Jo
Hi Aunty Yochana,
I tried making your cookies and they were awesome. However mine turned out hard. Is it suppose to be that way or is it suppose to melt in your mouth. Thanks..
Regards
SC
I tried the recipe, taste and texture superb, easy to bake, and recipe can make up to 98 pieces.
Hi Aunty Yochana, these cookies are very nice but i felt that was too sweet.I'm a beginner in baking, hope to see more recipes from you ^^
Oh my! I used butter instead of corn oil and the rest of the ingredients were the same, my cookies turned out brown and hard. I guess I should stick to the corn oil?
Cheers!
Pam
Hi aunty! How much ground almonds should I use? Also 150 gm? Where do you buy ur ground almonds from? Can I also use all purpose flour? Do I have to omit the salt and baking powder then? Thanks!
Dear Aunty, may I know if your cookie is supposed to be crunchy and could taste the sugar crystals, or is it supposed to be soft and melts in mouth kind?
