oh gosh,

may lee...I used to eat the Hainanese butter cake in my grandmother's village. This coffee shop sells and bakes themselves....the aroma is simply wonderful and whenever my grandaunt buys the cake, we as kids will grab and fight for it. So the fighting adds flavour into the cake and at that time our taste buds were not that sharp. So it was really wonderful at that period of time.

Now...I can't compare anymore cos I ate too much cakes already. Frankly speaking that small little coffee shop really left a deep impression on me. I can also remember the shop's name...it's called "Jong Xuan" in Rengam, near Kluang.

Hi Yochana

Your traditional butter cake looks really delicious and just like the type I like to eat (but is hard to find nowadays). Would you be able to share the recipe? My email is bmeikei@yahoo.com. Thanks!
