Hi Aunt Yochana,

Would you be able to share what brand of essence you used to get the strawberry fragrant? I tried using red man brand strawberry paste fm NTUC to make cakes and the smell is awful. Thanks.

Cheers,
agnes

Hi aunty Yochana

Can you pls share this recipe with me. My email: catherineake01@yahoo.com.sg

I tried baking yr mango swiss roll yesterday. Sad to say, while rolling, the cake cracked, also a bit too dry. I know there must be a certain skill in rolling, right? What causes the dryness ?

Somehow by me calling you 'aunty', I wonder and curious to know am I abt the same age as u? I am 47, u ..? haha

Hi Agnes,

Never never use RED MAN strawberry paste. As what you have said, it smells and taste awful. To me, it taste worst than plastic. You can't eat the cake at all if you use that paste.

Go To Sun Lik or Bake King brand.

Hi Yoo lee,

You see what I mean?? Even 1 egg with twin yolks you feel so happy. What about me when I cracked the wrong tray with double yolks.

For those who is interested in making this cake , no secrets at all.

Just use the optima sponge cake mix recipe, add in some strawberry paste and pink colouring and bake into a 9" sq. tray. Use a 4 egg recipe.
Slice into half and cream with butter cream (recipe is already in my blog). Decorate as desired.

Hi Aunty Yochana, can i use strawberry powder(bought from Phoon Huat) instead of paste? Thankyou.

Aunty Yochana said...

Hi wendy,

Strawberry powder?? You have to find out from Phoon Huat what it is used for. If it's a mousse powder, then it's solely only for making mousse or it could be used for making yoghurt. Ask Phoon Huat and they will be able to guide you.

Hi sis Lucy

Better not call u 'aunty' from now on...sounds better right ?

Thanks for yr reply and also this strawberry cream cake recipe. I am going to Sunlik now to get the strawberry paste and somemore tracing papers. Of late, after seeing yr blog, got into the temptation of baking cakes. My maid even comment eat until 'sian' already..hahahaha! (Maybe my cake doesn't look tempting enough unlike yours). LOL

Hv a good weekend !

Hi again

Need yr help on the followings:

1) Went thru thoroughly the recipes
categories, could not find the
said recipes.

2) Just came back frm Sunlik,
bought 'Dove' brand-strawberry
paste, cakeflour, val choco
pwd n etc. Mrs Wong said not
necessary to buy the pink
coloring IF using the strawbry
paste. They will be pink too.

3) I did not buy optima flr becos
seldom use this type.(wasteful)
How can I substitue with
cakeflr or self-raising flr ??

Thanks so much !

Aunty Yochana said...

Hi mscake,

Optima flour is a premix flour whereby it has a mixture of flour, sugar , baking agent. Just add water and eggs and whisk. Add in cornoil or melted butter and ta da...a lovely soft sponge cake. This doesn't need skill...it's a non-failure flour.
