hai aunty yochana, your cranberry steamed cake look great and nice. My mum loves steamed cake very much and I hope u can share the recipe with me. I have been to the FHA 2008 and it was a pity i did not meet u personally. If not mistaken, the chocolate moulds were sold in somewhere in Hall 6. I have just discovered your blog last few months and really impressed with ur baking skill.

aunty :
do u use the electrical steamer or the conventional stainless steel steamer ? what is the brand?
the sight of the lovely steamed cakes are simply irresistable esp the 'blossomings'. such consistencies.
cheers,
yan

Hi Yan,

I used the normal 3-tiered steamer over the gas stove.

Hi Lucy

I tried to steam a 'brown sugar huat kueh' just now, using LeeLee's recipe: 250g s.f. flr; 230g brown sugar; 220 coconut milk. I boiled the brown sugar, coconut milk together first, then set aside and add in the s.f. flour. It took me 1 hr plus to steam over fire but VERY DISAPPOINTED - did not 'smile' at all, looked like a space ship.

Any recipe on this for me to try. I looked at yr cranberry steamed cake, it smiled with 4 sides out (very nice). I really love to give it a try again. pls help, do I need baking powder ? Thanks.

Dear Lucy

From the recipe that I mentioned earlier, is there any hicups there that caused my 'huat kueh' not smiling at all ??

Please kindly help me with the recipe and methods. I was so down whole of yesterday when my kueh was a failure yesterday. PLEASE PLEASE HELP ME WITH THE RECIPES!

Ps. Chinese very superstitious when 'huat kueh' not smiling ...

Thank you very much !
