Omigosh... I have to look for a bib before I short circuit my keyboard! I was craving for it and later of the day, I bought 1/4 from Bread History-a local chain bakery over here. I tasted the Lapis Legit and also Bika Ambon from Medan (both from Zulaika @ Jalan Majapahit) before and in varieties too for both type of cakes.
Would you believe that my Dutch friends never heard of Spekkoek aka Lapis Legit?
Now, I need time to learn how to Lapis Legit...
Thanks again for sharing ... hmmm... i feel like licking my screen...ehhehehe..
I must say that I'm already so attracted by all your cakes and I think this lapis must be very yummy. Just wonder are you conducting any baking lessons??
Nope... I'm Malaysian :-D but I do love Indonesian Layered Cake aka Spekkoek aka Lapis Legit. I known a Medanese Chinese elderly lady whom I adored since a child. She's the one who introduced me to Indonesian food from salads to sweets like teng teng, Ak Am,etc. Most of them are my favorites and the best Buah Salak (Salak Pondoh & Salak Bali) come from Bali,Indonesia. Also the Terung Belanda (tamarillo - a native of South America) juice which plant was brought by the Dutch during the heydays of Spice trade...
Dear auntie, Your cakes really looks delicious. do you mind email me the recipe please?.. As I do not have this book "Malaysian Layered Cake" Thank you so much. Regards. From Connie (elle_chh@yahoo.com)

OMG!!! That looks so good! The only problem is that there is no recipe posted! I am making Lapis Legit for a project with a friend of mine, and we can't find any recipes with pictures as yummy looking as yours! please, please,PLEASE! POST THE RECIPE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Your lapis legit looks TO DIE FOR!!! I've tried making it 3 times now and all of them are far from what you posted. Im curious to know if something is wrong with my recipe or is it the setting of the oven that makes the cake very hard especially the bottom layers. And, it doesn't rise as nicely as yours. Can you please send me the recipe? (fitriya@hotmail.com)
