Food in Seoul Korea

Background : Home page of Imperial Kitchen (Mum and daughter)

Sorry for being MIA. I was having a short holiday in Seoul which is having a temperature of -6 (Winter holiday). The weather was terribly cold (snow and ice) and I was suferring under the harsh weather. My skin was dry and was starting to itch all over and my lips were dry and chapped. Nonetheless these delicious meals pays off the winter holiday ..........which tasted extra delicious when you jumped out of your coach, walked in the cold wintery temperature and straight into the restuarants with hot food bubbling on the table: "ENJOY"

Mushroom Steamboat

BBQ

Ginseng chicken soup with refill on your ginseng wine....this is delicious!! Mind you, this bowl is for per person and each bowl consists of 1 spring chicken, mee sua, glutinous rice, nuts and ginseng.

Steamboat

Stir fried hotplate with fried rice (which they will fry on the spot on the later part)

This is a special morning breakfast.....porridge and man-tou with steamboat (more food came later but we did not snap a photo of it)

This is the best meal of all: The "Da Chang Jing" lunch....the food is really really delicious....

Hi Lucy,
Hope you dun mind me calling u dat cos u are too young for aunty. Glad you are back cos I miss seeing your daily bakes. I went Seoul during the xmas period too.Did you ski? I think we had roughly the same food. I like the ginseng chicken and the best food for me is the mushroom steamboat. The worst meal for me is the Da Chang Jing lunch.I don't know how to appreciate it. Hope to meet up with you during the next gathering (too tired n busy to attend the IK gathering after my tour).

Rgds,
ANC.

Hi ANC,

Yes Yes, the mushroom was a favourite with many of us in our group.

I love the da chang jing lunch is very delicious for me. Every small dish has it's own taste...that's lovely for me.

I did not ski lah...aunty already so I sat at the cafe with my dh, mum and another lady from our group eating away the hotdogs and churros, drank hot chocolate and coffee while my daughter and the others went for skiing..

Well, we will meet one day.

Welcome back Lucy. Oh you gave skiing a pass? You are right about warm food in winter, it tasted especially yummy especially there was a day we had -12 degree.

Hi Yochana,

Welcome back. Had been wondering what happen to u. Didn't see yr daily bake. I also went to Korea last June and had a wonderful time. Every meal was Kimchi and steamboat. Too bad not enough time for shopping. Did u tried the hot spring spa? Everybody's in their birth suit in the changing room and shower with no cubicles.

Looking forward to more of yr daily bakes.

Hi Aunty!

Welcome HOME! Ya, it was a case of withdrawal symptom as Sandra said. I was clicking and clicking on your website everyday.
The itch from the cold and dryness must be unbearable! Hope you are better now.
Ya, time spent with the family is invaluable, glad that you enjoyed your trip and looking forward to our daily "drug" dosage from you!;p

Hi precious moments,

My daughter went skiing while I stayed at the cafe (2nd floor) with my dh, mum and another lady. We were all shivering like mad at the ski resort. I think at the ski resort it could be what you've said....-12. All I can remember is yelling at the tourist guide to bring me to a warmer place... I was literally forced to use the cable car to the top to have a view of the ski mountain. Tell you something....even lost weight in Seoul because whole day jumping on the spot to keep warm. Like a jumping jelly bean jumping on solid ice. "LOL"

Putupiring,

No toys in Seoul leh...bought a set of spoons with metal chopsticks.. I bought it cos I find it amusing. The spoons are longer unlike our standard length spoon and the chopsticks are metal.. I also bought the rice bowl which is stainless steel with a cover. Other then that..winter clothers..cannot buy.

Hi Jennifer,

Talking about the hot spring spa, my daughter and myself were the odd ones out. I was wearing my swimming suit and with an extra pairs of shorts (scared of cold) plus my cap. We walked into the **** zone and ran out. The whole bathroom were "****" females and children. In the end while taking shower and changing, we went *****, no choice cos the bathroom has no door and no private changing room. One of our friend from our group went to the ***** zone but she it took her awhile before she threw off her towel and step into the water and at the same time, dare not look left or right. Well, it's fun though. My daughther asked me to snap a photo for her in the bathroom and so I did. Secs later ...OMG...I quickly look at the photo and thank goodness it was only kids behind her. Anyway, it's fun hor.

Hugbear,

you should go...but beware of the cold if you go during winter (Dec and Jan).

As I've told you, I missed the photo in the kitchen of Da Chang Jing. "Boo hoo hoo"

Hi Xan Ah Ju Ma,

An Nyung Ha Se Yo (How are you?)

Xan,

I eat kimchi but don't particularly like it and as what you've said, after going to Korea, you tend to love that dish. I bought 6 boxes home in the end. I wonder if anybody has experienced buying kim chi in vacuum pack and when you reached home, the vacuum pack expanded, opening the box on it's own. Think the pressure from the plane must have caused it...6 hrs flight..

Precious moments used to ask me whether I want some kim chi to make fried rice but I rejected...But now looks like I've changed my mind. Guess I'll be cooking this dish tmr.

Gam Sa Ham Hi Da (Thank You)

hiya Yochana!

so u are the 'daughter' in the pic? u are certainly very young from the far view pic hehehee. should be abt the same too in 'close up' pic.

btw i also went to korea recently. during CNY. the weather already increased to 12-16 degree celsius. i went to CTC/Korea and extend 2 more days by ourselves. The previous time i went was -14degree celsius. winter came late and disappeared early for 2007!

opps. i get it mixed up hehehehe. anyway yr daughter very young! :P

btw, my group are mainly young adults. Tour guide is the oldest among us hahahhaaa. and all the girls except for 2 worn swimming suit into the spa valley. the rest of us just removed our clothes after much hestitation from the other girls. i'm quick to remove mine since this is not the first time already. hehehehhee. nice experience :P

we even paid to be scrub/massage by the ahjuma @ spa valley. but the quality is so-so only. not worth it. i paid 25,000 for whole body scrub (which is a fast job done), others paid 30,000 for a whole body massage

Wow anonymous, I admire your courage. Well done...on your bravery. This "Ah Ju Ma" here is a coward.
