Dear Aunty,
When I pour in the coconut milk and sweet corn, do I need to turn off the flame? My mixture was getting thicker after I pour in the coconut milk and sweet corn.
Please advise. Thanks Aunty.
Regards,
YL
Hi YL,
yes, switch off the flame when you stir in the coconut milk and sweet corn,

Boo-hoo-hoo... I replaced coconut milk with evaporated milk and minus sugar as the Konnyaku Jelly I bought comes with sugar. The jelly doesn't set :-( so I had to send all 4 trays into the freezer now.
Aunty Lucy, do you know if it's because of the milk?
reena,
poor thing...did you check the expiry date? Sometimes when it expires, it doesn't work anymore. I've come across konnyaku powder that doesn't work. You should buy the konnyaku powder from Anna Phua. Her's is the best and when you eat it, it's very chewy.

Aunty Lucy,
I think I know the problem now. My powder is pre-mixed with sugar but I followed your receipe to a T thus the jelly won't set. Should have gotten one without sugar.
Nevertheless, I tried the konnyaku ice-lollies, the taste is refreshing. I'll definitely try this again.
BTW, where to get Anna Phua's jelly powder?

Hi
I have been making this jelly, it isn't chewy enough and it seems to be melting when I leave it in the fridge. Kind of condensation, because I let it set in the open, remove the jelly and keep in boxes, then refrigerate. I get lots and lots of water vapour on the box cover and they just drip onto the jelly, so my jelly doesn't keep its shape and seem to be melting.
Next question, while cooking the jelly, do I need to bring the mixture to a boil or just until the sugar melt?
Thks & Rgds
IC
Dear IC,
Firstly, your konnyaku jelly could be expired or it's not the good brand. Buy the expensive konnyaku jelly powder from Anna Phua which comes from Japan (original) and it will definitely be chewy. Just pour in the konnyaku jelly and sugar into the sugar and stir till sugar is completely melted. At this stage, the konnyaku jelly sets very fast and you must pour quickly into the moulds.

Made this yesterday, it was great! love the texture. i used to make sweet corn pudding but I think your recipe is so much tastier and easier to make. Thank you.
Dear Aunty,
I love your recipes =) I have tried somes and most of them was successful.
For this recipe, can I replace konnyaku jelly by agar powder? If yes, how many grams should I use?
Thanks and reagards,
Chi
Hi chi,
If you use agar agar powder, the jelly will have a different texture. They will become hard and cruchy like any ordinary jelly whereas konnyaku is soft and chewy.
for 4 cups of water = 1 pkt. Rose brand agar agar powder.

Hi Aunty,
in my place they did not sell konnyaku powder, only have agar powder and unflavor gelatin, and jello and kanteen, only, i know all of that is agar, but i do not know they are the same methods or grams when we use it, can you show me quick, thank you.
hi anonymous.
Pardon me but I don't understand what chart you want.
If you can't get konnyaku, just make normal agar agar will do..
1 pkt rose brand , use 1 cup sugar and 4 cups water.

Dear Aunty Yo,
I tried to make this sweet corn konnyaku jelly yesterday wanted to give to my boyfriend as surprise, but yet the jelly doesnt set even after 1 whole afternoon, i did measured all the ingredients nicely, i boiled the water till the side of the pot have bubbles and added in the sugar mixture, till sugar dissolved, i turn the fire to small and added in the coconut milk followed by sweet corn and turned off the fire. Did i do any steps wrong? As no matter how long after i poured them in the mould, they only turn to br a layer on top and below of it is watery type and also the jelly has became 2 layers, the corn has all sunk at the bottom layer together with transparent layer, on top of it is the milk layer type. I was quite sad about it and hope you can advice me about this so that i can make it for my boyfriend soon.
Thanks Aunty,
Regards,
Melli
Hi Melli,
What brand of Konnyaku powder did you buy? Some brands does not work especially if it's expired.
A konnyaku jelly sets very fast and it even sets before you finish pouring into the mould.

Hi Aunty,
I used Hollyfarm's konnyaku jelly which i bought from NTUC. The jelly just wont set and the sweet corn all sunk at the bottom, what's wrong with the jelly? Is it i have added too little konnyaku jelly or too much water? or my method is wrong?
Regards,
Melli
Hi Melli,
So sorry to inform you that brand's knonnyaku doesn't work at all, not even for me. I also happened to try it out a week ago and I poured into the drain instead.
rgds
Hi Aunty,
sad to hear about that, i bought 2pkts of the brand's konnyaku jelly still.. may i ask in NTUC, which brand of konnyaku jelly can i buy to make this sucessfully? Thanks aunty.
regards,
melli
Hi Melli,
I only like the one I bought from Anna Phua. although it's more ex but it's worth it. Nice and chewy.
rgds
Hi Aunty,
The place you mentioned to buy the konnyaku jelly was too far from my place, so far i bought most of the ingredients at NTUC all that, thus i wish to find out which brand able to work as i really wish to try this out =(
Regards,
Melli
Hi Melli,.
Anna phua's konnyaku jelly powder is a 100% guarantee but I don't know about others cos sometime the Phoon Huat one also cannot set.
rgds
Hi Aunty,
I did this with another brand of konnyaku powder that i found in NTUC, this was able to set and i was quite happy for awhile, but failed this time again, when i took the pan off from the heat and add in coconut milk and cream corn, the mixture immediately became to start to set, should i pour the konnyaku mixture to another bowl before adding in coconut milk and cream corn? so that they wont be thicken so fast.
Regards,
Melli
Hi Aunty Yo, is your 1 cup referring to 250ml? Thanks! Ca
hi,
yes 1 cup is 250 ml.
rgds
Hi Aunty,
If i replaced the coconut milk with evaporated milk, how much evaporated milk should i add?
hi aunty,
can i replaced coconut milk with evaporated milk? how much evaporated milk should i add? Tks.
Hi aunty,
I just bought Anna Phua's konnyaku jelly powder! I'd like to ask whether it is necessary to stir the boiled jelly mixture (after turning off the flame) for 5 minutes (as recommended by Phoon Huat's video demo) to allow the bubbles to dissipate before pouring it into moulds.
Thanks :)
